Look Right Through Me Appeal
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We can't say it enough.
As the end of the financial year drew to a close we asked for your support to raise the final $10,000 required to ensure we could realise our dream for Look Right Through Me.
We did it!
You actually set a new record for KAGE exceeding our target and raising exactly $10,207. We can't express how thankful we are. Every donation is vital, valued, and makes a real difference.
Now it's our turn to deliver on our promise! We bumped the set in to the rehearsal room on Sunday (in the rain), and our Sydney dancers arrived safely and checked into their accommodation at Melbourne Short Stay Apartments. Our marketing and media campaign is in full swing, and Leroy's training is underway. Yes it is true, we have a dog and a child in the show.
Be sure to follow us on twitter to get the updates from the rehearsal room, and check our our facebook for behind the scenes pictures.
We look forward to welcoming you to the world premiere of Look Right Through Me at the Malthouse, 7th - 18th September. Book your tickets here.

Get to know a KAGE COACH participant
This month we catch up with Lucy Watts.
Tell us a bit about yourself...
My name is Lucy Watts and I have recently completed my final year of a Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts. I have taken duo class with Gerard Van Dyck, for a couple of years now at the VCA, but most recently, have enjoyed working with him on a short duo he created on myself and fellow student, Alya Manzart, for my final Choreography Assessment. Working with Gerard, and learning of some of the tools necessary to undertake his movement vocabulary, has fast become a big interest and love of mine. The physicality of the movement is exhilarating, and the lessons it teaches about trust, taking risks, and making offers has been invaluable and has helped to boost my confidence through the roof, as both a dancer and as a human being.
What are your ambitions as an artist?
‘The core of man’s spirit comes from new experiences.’
– Christopher McCandless
As an artist and a person, I have always desired to explore my physical and mental boundaries, whether this is through movement, sourcing an inspiring quote or affirmation to give me a sense of purpose for the day, or saying “yes” to a spontaneous event. I get a thrill from pushing myself to the limits and accepting new challenges, concepts and ideas that I know will keep my body and mind guessing and enable me to grow as a human being. Through my dance practice, I hope to continue to explore the human potential, in the hope that I will find my unique place in the dance and wider world.
What would be of most benefit to you as an artist right now?
To further explore the relationship between internal thinking, and external movement and how one can affect and manifest the other.
What do you hope to gain from KAGE COACH?
I hope not only to explore new and different methods in which to approach and create movement, but to re-ignite the fire, drive and passion for movement that I have within myself as I take my first steps out into the dance profession.
Sundowner on ABC's Artscape- 13 September 2011

We are delighted to announce that the ABC documentary following the making of Sundowner is now confirmed to go to air on Artscape on Tuesday 13th September at 10pm.
It will take you behind the scenes during the making of Sundowner, as well as give you an insight into the lives of people living with Alzheimer's and the way in which they generously shared their stoires with KAGE to make Sundowner.
Remember to tune in!
Plus if you have not already shared your thoughts with KAGE about Sundowner and your experience as an audience member we invite you to participate in our online survey available at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KAGEaudience
The survey is run by Deakin University with support from Arts Victoria and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and confidential. We hope you will participate! Thankyou in advance!
Take a look at Sundower here.
Insider Info

Last month Gerard was working in Perth with ex graduate buddy and Victorian College of the Arts alumni, independent choerographer and dancer Danielle Micich on her project Shiver.
While we certainly missed him here in Melbourne, he returns fit and ready for the final development of Look Right Through Me.
Keeping it in the family, did you know that Hans Van Dyck, Gerard's father, is the magic man who builds all of KAGE's sets. He has also appeared on stage in KAGE's work Contamination, alongside Kate's father - Michael Denborough. See Hans's most recent work, realising Julie Renton's set design for Look Right Through Me, this September at the Malthouse.
