Hello AJT'ers: Hope everyone is having a good start to their new year. Take a look at the conference information below. 

Don't forget to reserve your rooms now in the two conference hotels and send in your registration before the early-bird date of November 1, for the best value.

AJT Theatre Machers Fellowship

The AJT Theatre Machers Fellowship is an exciting new program generously supported by the Association for Jewish Theatre. It provides conference fee subsidies (see conference description on last two pages) on a limited “first-in-line” basis for emerging theatre-makers. Applications accepted through November 3.

 

Submission Requirements:

  1. Personal Statement about Jewish theatre and performance (see next page)
  2. For Ages 20-35 years
  3. Registration only considered with a $100 deposit paid by by check with this form. $50 will be refunded only after you attend the conference.

3: 30 pm   CONVERSATION I:  Adapting the Shape of the American Jewish Theatre

- David Winitsky – Artistic Director of Jewish Plays Project, New York City a development house for 21st Century Jewish theater based in NYC. Also with representative from The Welders, dog & pony dc and members of the National New Play Network.

 

5 pm         BREAK

8 pm       KEYNOTE: Aaron Posner on The Art of Adaptation

Aaron Posner is a widely recognized director and adapter, whose most recent work Stupid F*cking Bird, an adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull, is currently playing at Wooly Mammoth Theatre Company in D.C. It received the 2014 Helen Hayes Award for the Best New Play and Outstanding Resident Production. Posner also adapted two of the most celebrated Jewish novels, both by Chaim Potok - The Chosen and My Name Is Asher Lev (Outer Circle Critics Award for Best New Off-Broadway play). Founder and former artistic director of Philadelphia’s Arden Theatre, Posner has directed at major regional theatre companies from coast to coast.

3 pm CONVERSATION III: Adaptation for Transformation into the Lives of Others

• Derek Goldman is Artistic Director of the Davis Performing Arts Center at Georgetown University and Co-Founding Director of the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, a joint initiative between the Theater and Performance Studies Program and the School of Foreign Service. 

• Alisa Solomon is author of Wonder of Wonders the cultural history of Fiddler on the Roof. She directs Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism’s Arts and Culture concentration and won the George Jean Nathan Award for theatre criticism.

• Dr. Colin Greer has been the President of the New World Foundation since 1985. Formerly a Professor at Brooklyn College, CUNY, his books include (with Herbert Kohl) A Call to Character and The Plain Truth of Things. Other books include, with Frank Riesman and Alan Gartner, What Nixon is doing to Us and After Reagan What? He is also a playwright and is currently writing on a new iteration of his play Imagining Heschel about singular moments in the life of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, working with David Chack.
