On Tuesday, the commission essentially shoved those proposals to the bottom of the to-do list. Instead, they want to try building a roundabout at 14th Street or 10th Street, or possibly both. They directed staff to work on the logistics, including the critical question of how to fund construction. Click here for Article

| Traffic to come full circle Sarasota Five Points |
|
SARASOTA - It has been more than 50 years since drivers in downtown Sarasota had to navigate a roundabout, but that is about to change. Work on two projects downtown is set for this summer. Three downtown intersections -- including Five Points, considered the heart of downtown -- are slated to be transformed into the circular traffic devices common to many European cities.
This summer the city will tear up the intersection at Five Points and put in a roundabout, the latest change for an intersection that has always been the heart of the city.

When you add all the work together -- lifeguard, a gazebo and a host of little projects -- about $2 million of work is slated at the laid-back beach for locals, which has been drawing crowds since its sands were renourished two years ago.
