Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix
Three local boys-turned-boat-racing-budding-stars will be battling it out in the waters off Lido Beach during the July Fourth Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix. The young men will each be partnered with their fathers, who taught them nearly everything they know about preparing for, competing in and, hopefully, winning one of the country's biggest super boat races.

OIL RISK LOW IN SARASOTA
Compared with the rest of the state, Southwest Florida's shoreline is least likely to see tar balls and oil globs from the Deepwater Horizon spill. Chances that oil will reach here are less than 1 percent, while Miami and the Florida Keys have an 80 percent chance, according to a new federal computer model.
The loop current, which flows clockwise through the Gulf, is more likely to shuttle oil away from this region, dragging it instead toward Miami, the Florida Keys and the east coast

NY TIMES TRAKING OIL SPILL
The “estimated extent” of the oil slick is an estimate by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of where oil is mostly likely to go based on wind and ocean current forecasts, as well as analysis of aerial photography and satellite imagery.
The “surveyed extent” show areas where oil was visible on the surface of the water during aerial surveys of the Gulf.

Sarasota condo tower evacuated cracks found
SARASOTA - The city of Sarasota ordered Dolphin Tower condominium evacuated after a crack developed in the support structure of the 35-year-old bayfront building.

LONGBOAT KEY CLUB EXPANSION APPROVED

LONGBOAT KEY - After a contentious public hearing that dragged on for months, the Longboat Key Club & Resort Islandside got the Town Commission's approval today for its planned $400 million expansion. The revised plan reduces the club's requested 360 residential and hotel units to 350 or 351. But it restores most of the 44 condos that a majority of commissioners tentatively cut from the project this month while keeping Islandside's overall density below the 5.05 units per acre approved in the late 1970's.

Property sales in May 2010 in the Sarasota market once again hit the highest total since 2005 and median sale prices continued the steady pace observed in recent months.
The 766 sales were the highest for the year, topping the April 2010 total of 757, and were the highest total since December 2005, and 51.3 percent higher than the May 2009 total of 506 sales.
