1000 women will die this way on Boxing Day too. In fact 1000 women die every day whilst pregnant or giving birth. Many of these women will be giving birth without light, water or qualified medical attention in places in the world where services we often take for granted, cannot be relied upon to function when women need them most. In some places in Africa and Asia women are as much as 10 times more likely than those in the UK to die in childbirth. In these places only those with significant resources can avoid ill equipped local hospitals and inadequate information and care. But, the vast majority of these deaths could be prevented by the provision of simple information and equipment which many of us take for granted. At Women and Children First we want to make sure this needless loss of women's lives ends now. That’s why Women and Children First has developed a means to get information to women and help them share resources which can save their lives. It only costs £5 for another women to join one of our programmes. £5 that might, in the end, save her life. This Christmas please think about making a commitment to supporting our work, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year by signing up for a monthly donation. That donation really could save lives. Thank you. Best wishes for Christmas and a Happy New Year ![]() Chief Executive |
