We live in an era where the food in our supermarkets travels
an average of 1,500 miles from source to dinner table.
Our holiday table this year, with everything produced
within a few miles, is a sign of real progress!
Dear Friend,
I am so grateful that the vast majority of food on my dinner table this holiday season was produced within just a few miles of my kitchen—much of it by people who are friends and neighbors.
As director of the Foodshed Alliance, I have the privilege to work closely and to collaborate with local farmers and other food producers to strengthen our local food economy. But that is the beauty of buying local! You meet the people who plant the seeds, feed the soil, pull the weeds, nurture the animals, harvest and prepare fresh nutritious food for our tables. You can chat with them at the farmers’ market, shake their hands at a Farm-to-Fork dinner, and stop by the farm to see what’s coming up.
Since 2001, the Foodshed Alliance has worked with farmers throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York to help them connect with buyers for their wares. Helping farmers become more profitable keeps them on the farm producing our food, and it preserves our area’s fertile soils, pristine streams, wooded hills, dairy and crop farms, and historic villages.
We invite you to help us in our work. Please make a DONATION today
to the Foodshed Alliance so we can meet the growing challenges of
building a resilient local food economy through innovative programs.
During this holiday season, we are so grateful for all of the support the Foodshed Alliance has received this year, and for the consistent strengthening of our local food economy. We wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday!
