Opera Company of Philadelphia Welcomes East Coast Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-Winning New Opera SILENT NIGHT
 
First Opera by Award-Winning Composer Kevin Puts is a Co-Production of the American Repertoire Program -
Five Performances at the Academy of Music Feb. 8-17, 2013

 
SilentNight0559 2Philadelphia, PA: The Opera Company of Philadelphia’s 2012-2013 Season continues in February with the highly-anticipated East Coast premiere of Silent Night, the first opera from American composer Kevin Puts with a libretto by Mark Campbell. Commissioned by the Minnesota Opera for its November 2011 World Premiere, and co-produced by the Opera Company of Philadelphia and Minnesota Opera, the critically-acclaimed new work earned Puts the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in Music. Silent Night runs in five performances at the Academy of Music, February 8-17, 2013. The Pulitzer Prize Board called Silent Night “a stirring opera that recounts the true story of a spontaneous cease-fire among Scottish, French and Germans during World War I, displaying versatility of style and cutting straight to the heart.” READ FULL NEWS RELEASE

Opera Company Announces Public Programs in Conjunction with February Premiere of SILENT NIGHT
 
Philadelphia, PA: In conjunction with the East Coast Premiere of Silent Night, the critically-acclaimed new American opera from composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell, the Opera Company of Philadelphia will present an exciting array of public programs. The schedule of events includes live performances of opera excerpts and music from the era as well as two screenings of the 2005 Academy Award nominated film Joyeux Noël, which inspired Silent Night. There will also be a series of lectures and presentations on the outbreak of World War I and the events surrounding the Christmas Eve truce dramatized in the opera, and featuring the artwork and writings of American war veterans. The Opera Company will also celebrate Silent Night and other new American works at its annual gala on Saturday, February 2, 2013. READ FULL NEWS RELEASE
