what's new with beth

So, let's see, what has happened to me since my last newsletter? Um, oh yeah, I got married! If you've been reading Andy and my wedding blog series, you know that we both worked hard to celebrate our love of design, music, film and beer throughout our special day. Check out our wedding series to read about designing and recording a wedding record, brewing and branding wedding beer and designing wedding invitations and save-the-dates, and get ready for more now that our gorgeous photos from Jacqueline of Readyluck have been edited!

For those of you who might not know, Andy has joined me full-time at BBD as of late 2011! We are now partners in just about everything from working together on design projects and developing marketing ideas to walking our big ol' bulldog Buckus, and even writing this newsletter.

Laura Shay is a singer/songwriter who was born and raised in our fair city of Philadelphia. She's been performing live since she was just 16 years old, and has released a string of albums on her own terms, and with no manager or booking agent, little press, and one year of piano lessons when she was nine, Laura has managed to sell out venues in the Philadelphia area and has had her songs placed in various television shows and movies around the world!

Beth Blinebury Design redesigned Laura's site to coincide with her latest album release, Love and Other Things. A continuation of Laura's organic piano- and acoustic guitar-based tracks, the collection of songs focuses on love in its various stages and forms, was independently produced and features select musicians and engineers who embraced Laura's Do-It-Yourself, home-grown vibe.

And all this while maintaining a fruitful career as an adjunct professor of interpersonal communication and finishing a second graduate degree in Communicative Disorders. Color us impressed!

Do I need a blog? How should I blog?

Sure, "blog away" we say! Blogging is a great way to drive traffic to your website while adding personality to your web presence. Recently we have been incorporating blog-style areas on many of our website projects so that our clients can dabble with blogging without making that "full blog" commitment.

Some of our clients have expressed concern over what or how they should "blog." Our first piece of advice to them is usually not to sweat it. It's easy to get started. What are your interests? What entertains or inspires you? Have you recently read an article on which you have an opinion? Anything can be a blog! Sure, it's a good practice to post about projects your business is involved in (after you've cleared things with your clients of course), but blogging about something more personal can open up a different side of yourself to current and prospective clients. And make it fun!

For more answers to questions you may have about your next big project, check out our set of frequently asked questions on the BBD website. And if you have even more questions about your next big project, just send me a message!
