PCC received a grant of $52,500 from Topfer Family Foundation this year in support of “Healthy Mothers, Happy Families.” This initiative is designed to ensure excellent birth outcomes for expectant mothers and a healthy start in life for their newborns. We very much appreciate the fact that Topfer Family Foundation chose to make "Healthy Mothers, Happy Families" a priority.

Reproductive Health Services at PCC
For many women their annual well-woman exam is the only medical care they receive. 2,300 patients rely on PCC for women’s health and wellness services each year. Over 38% of Texas mothers are either late to care or receive no prenatal care whatsoever. 1,100 expectant moms receive prenatal care at PCC, and 732 babies were born into the clinic’s practice in 2010.

Texas Turns Back the Clock
It’s hard to believe, but the Texas legislature has turned back the clock on women’s health, back to the days before Texas women had access to regular affordable healthcare! Women’s health and wellness services have always been a key component of PCC’s practice, and the Clinic is committed to these services in spite of a possible $500,000 hit to its budget from state cuts. Your gift of $225 will pay for one well-woman exam at PCC.

The BIG Give
I Live Here, I Give Here is holding its 3rd annual BIG Give contest. The BIG Give awards go to nonprofits that do an exceptional job of thanking their donors. From July 15 to August 15, PCC donors can go to the BIG Give webpage to vote for PCC and fill out a brief survey on their experience donating to the Clinic.

Did you know?
Problem: Texas ranks 46th in the nation for rate of pap smears, a test used for early detection of cervical cancer. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services only 77.7% of women in Texas have had a pap smear within the past 3 years. The Healthy People 2010 National Target was 90%. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends for women 21 and over to have a pap smear at least every 3 years.

Solution: Regular women's health exams including pap smears can detect precancerous and cancerous changes to the cervix. Ideally, every woman should have access to this life-saving tool; increased access to such exams is critical to the health of Texas women.
