The “Secret” to Successfully Marketing 

Your Practice

Since 2006, millions of people have either read Rhonda Byrne’s book, “The Secret,” or watched the movie, and learned to use the Law of Attraction to reach their goals. According to the Law of Attraction, the things that you think about and focus on are the things that you attract into your life. So how can you apply this principle to marketing your practice?

Focus on What You Want

Start by identifying exactly what you want to attract. Who are your ideal patients? How many of these ideal patients do you want to see each day? What are your goals in terms of dollar volume, return appointments, referrals, etc.? Put this all in writing, and review it with your team at least once a week.

Create a Positive Atmosphere in Your Office

Like attracts like, and a positive atmosphere not only attracts more patients, it attracts more pleasant, positive-minded patients.

Position Your Practice in Positive Terms

Your marketing materials should always tell patients what you can do for them, not what you can’t. Your office is not “Closed on Saturday and Sunday” – it’s “Open 5 days a week to serve you.” If your XYZ specialist is only at your office on Tuesdays, you can say that “for your convenience, appointments with our XYZ specialist are available right here in our office.”

Make Positive Associations

Carefully choose words and images for your marketing materials that will create the positive thoughts you want prospective patients to associate with your practice. Focus on what you want people to think about, not what you don’t want them to think about. Orthodontists, for example, should focus on the beautiful end result of their work – not the inconvenience and discomfort of the process.

Finally, don’t forget about your own expectations. Since you get what you think about, be sure you’re thinking about success!
