2016 Conference Registration Now Open!
Philadelphia Family Pride will sponsor our 7th Annual Family Matters Conference for LGBTQ parents, prospective parents and our kids of all ages on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the McNeil Science and Technology Center at the University of the Sciences in West Philadelphia (pictured).
Registration is now open!
This one day event is a great chance to network, share information and get some concrete advice from LGBTQ parents, attorneys and other professionals during workshops and panels as well as our sponsor tables. It's also a great chance for our kids to hang out with each other.
PFP is beyond thrilled that this year's keynote speaker will be Staceyann Chin. Staceyann is a spoken-word poet, performing artist and LGBT rights political activist.
Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Pittsburgh Daily, and has been featured on 60 Minutes. She is also author of the book "The Other Side of Paradise" where she chronicles her struggles growing up in Jamaica.
Staceyann is currently starring in a one-woman show, Motherstruck!, about her journey to parenthood as a single lesbian. The show played to critical acclaim off-Broadway in New York and on the road in Chicago and now Washington, DC. If you are interested in a possible group trip to DC to see her show on October 15, please email Stephanie Haynes at email@example.com.
In addition to our keynote speaker, workshop sessions for adults range from "On the Journey to Parenthood" to "Adoption Options" to "LGBTQ Babymaking Options" for prospective parents and "Telling Your Story", "Social Justice & the Family" and "Connecting with Your Kids" (and more!) for current parents.
Back by popular demand, the "Treat Yourself" room will be a space where adults can unwind and recharge for a whole hour: get a chair massage, try acupuncutre, color or just relax and chat with other parents or prospective parents.
Click here for the full schedule and workshop information.
There will be onsite child care and activities for kids 0-6, including time outside (weather permitting). For kids 7-18, there will be programming with COLAGE, best known for their awesome workshops with our kids at Family Week in Provincetown.
For those who register before October 1, the cost is the same as last year at $20/adult for PFP members and $30/adult for non-members. Sliding scale is $0-$15. Kids 0-18 are free.
Lunch, parking and child care/big kid, tween and teen programming are all included.
After October 1, the cost goes up to $30/adult for PFP members and $40 for non-members, so register before October 1! Any kids not registered in advance will be $10 each for day-of, walk-up registration.

Fun PFP events in August
PFP families braved the heat in August for three fun events, starting with our annual summer picnic on Saturday, August 13 at the Freedom Playground in Haverford, PA. It was HOT, but there are a couple of misting stations on the playground and we kept under the shade of the pavilion.
PFP board member Gina Cline brought an entire cooler full of every kind of popsicle and ice cream treat you could imagine which was key to the event's success! Thanks to everyone who attended and to Sandy and Denise to keeping us laughing the whole time.
The following weekend, PFP folks traveled to New Jersey's Wading Pines Resort for our annual Camping Trip. We made out own shade (see the photo!), had some great meals together, and everyone loved the swimming pool. Thanks to board Vice-Chair Sandra Telep for leading the group.
Let us know if you have a suggestion for a location for next year's camping trip. We're thinking of moving it to June to avoid the worst of the heat.
Finally, the Philadelphia Phillies had their first-ever official Pride Night for the LGBT community on Monday, August 29 - and even gave out free rainbow Phillies shirts! It was a beautiful night for a ball game. Thanks to those who attended, even though the Phillies lost 4-0 to the division first-place Nationals.
If you have a milestone that you would like to share in an upcoming newsletter, please e-mail PFP Director Stephanie Haynes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
