Hello, Glenda,

Last month I alluded to professional changes...

I am now a content strategist at one of the largest mutual fund companies in the world. The opportunity came to me unexpectedly via LinkedIn. (A testament to proper LinkedIn optimization!) I am working on the user experience design team. These are not only some of the nicest people I have ever met, but also some of the most highly talented and intelligent people.

What does this mean?

It means I work with designers and developers in producing natural, direct content that creates or improves users' flows through online transactions. Everyone I am working with is passionate about what they do!

It also means that I'm changing the foci of my writing business. I'm focusing my business primarily on resume writing, LinkedIn optimization, freelance journalism, and creative writing. I am taking on select content projects, and will review each on a case-by-case basis.

Let me know if you're open to referrals!

Amazon's CreateSpace To End Design & Editing Services

Mark your calendars for April 20, 2018. CreateSpace terminates paid professional services that day. Au revoir to design, editing, marketing, and eBook conversions. If you're planning on self-publishing on CreateSpace, you'll need to hire outside creative help.

eBooks and Pricing: What's Selling

According to this data, more than half of book sales are eBooks. The books that sell the most are priced at $3. I try to read and believe the data, but I don't read eBooks!

Search Engine Optimization

Smart Speaker Optimization?

I'm not liking the keyword stuffing in this post, or the general phrase 'smart speaker optimization.' What this article is really about is conversational search. It also cites data that about 1/3 of smart speaker users (think Alexa) have made more purchases via their speaker. Think about how your books are optimized for voice search.

LinkedIn Oversight

Don't get too caught up only in updating the content in your LinkedIn profile. Yes, it's important for journalists/media, publishing connections, and readers to find you, but some people forget a key item: their picture! "One of the first things anyone will notice about your LinkedIn profile is your photo, so make your choice carefully."
