May 13, 2018 at 9:30 am and 11:30 am

Coming of Age Worship Services - Rev. Pam leads our services along with the leadership of our 2017/18 Coming of Age class. Be sure to attend this meaningful opportunity to hear from our high school students as they share their beliefs and as we ritualize their transition from childhood to adulthood.

We also celebrate Second Offering Sunday. At both worship services we will gratefully receive donations to the DUUF Ministerial Discretionary Fund. The Fund is maintained by donations from members and is used as its name suggests, at the discretion of the minister. The minister often talks with DUUF members when they are going through a hard time. Sometimes people share needs that they have, such as critical medicines to be refilled or a vehicle that is not running and is needed to get someone to work or school. Of course we cannot eliminate all of the needs of our DUUF family, but even a small amount can make a huge difference in filling an immediate need but also demonstrating DUUF's love and support. Please give generously.

In our 9:30 and 11:30 am Explorer Classes

Nursery (infant to Pre-K): Infants and young children are invited to our nursery for a time of play, discovery, nurture, and connection. If you are visiting for the first time, feel free to arrive early to meet our nursery staff and to spend time in the room (classroom number 4) with your child.

Grades PreK-1st: Students will explore Creativity! We will join the 2nd-5th grade class.

Grades 2nd-5th: Students will explore Creativity! Students will celebrate Mama’s Day, discuss justice, and create a gift.

From the Leadership

Greetings,

I want to thank everyone who was able to come to our congregational meeting on Sunday. We had a great turnout, but I realize that not everyone could make it. So, I just wanted to send a quick re-cap of the meeting -- we sure accomplished a lot!

Barb Rodman introduced our new congregational covenant by talking a bit about what other UU churches do and explaining how a covenant functions as one of the ways we promise to act respectfully with one another as a community. We then all recited the covenant. I want to thank Barb and everyone else who helped craft this covenant.

We then voted in our new Board of Trustees: Nancy Gaige, President; Adam Briggle, Past President; Tracey Gray, Vice President; Hal Gibbons, Treasurer; Lauren Coker, Secretary; Even-Year Trustee Brett Kellerstedt, and Odd-Year Trustee (completing Tracey Gray’s term) Charles Ways.

We also voted for Jason Galbraith to serve another term as a Trustee on our Endowment Committee. Then, Hal Gibbons, our trusty Treasurer, gave us an update on DUUF finances, which are looking great. One of the points he emphasized is the Board's recent decision to establish a rainy day fund, which will be an important way we can increase the financial security of DUUF.

The congregation then voted unanimously to expand our current half-time Lead Teacher into a full-time position. This is really exciting news for DUUF! We hope this lays the foundation for strengthening so many of the education and faith development programs that make us a force for spiritual growth and positive action in our community and beyond.

We also received an update from Sunnie Palmer about the interim ministerial search process. The search committee has identified a pair of great candidates and is currently in the interview process. More information will be forthcoming as soon as it is available.

Finally, we recognized a couple of our leaders who are transitioning out of their positions. I want to once again thank Gerry Veeder for her (countless!) years of service on the Worship Committee -- she is such a vital part of who we are! And as she steps down from the Board, I want to thank Sunnie Palmer for truly going above and beyond the call of duty to help us not only survive but thrive through some very rocky times in our recent past. Thank you, Sunnie! Please take a moment to express your gratitude to Sunnie and Gerry the next time you see them.

With good spirit,

Adam Briggle

President, Board of Trustees
