“Interfaith Ministries”

Condell Garden, executive director of Interfaith Ministries, will share stories about their important work in the community, providing help to struggling local families through short-term financial assistance and the Apple Tree Project.

This Sunday we will receive a second offering to support Interfaith Ministries of Denton. Your contributions will provide emergency assistance to Denton residents in need. Please give generously to support our community.

In our 10:30 am Explorer Classes

Nursery (infant to Pre-K): Infants and young children are invited to our nursery for a time of play, discovery, nurture, and connection. If you are visiting for the first time, feel free to arrive early to meet our nursery staff and to spend time in the room (classroom number 4) with your child.

Grades PreK-1st: The theme for this month is covenant. This week we will be learning about covenants through building things together. We will create our own covenant for our classroom, and build legos and a puzzle together.

Grades 2nd-5th: The theme for this month is covenant. This week we will be learning about covenants through building our own covenant together.

From the Leadership

Dear DUUF Community,

The coming months promise interesting events.

Rev. Donna Dolham, our interim minister, will be joining us on August 5 for her first DUUF service. Let us all show up to ensure her that we are indeed a loving and welcoming congregation.

The summer also brings thoughts of vacations and fun. Splash Day is August 18, followed by Ingathering/Water Communion on August 19. The Board will plan several other informal events during the coming year, during which we can all get to know Rev. Donna better. Looking further ahead, 2019 will be the 70th anniversary of DUUF which of course means a big party. This fall, we will continue with several Covenant groups and the Inquirer series.

As Rev. Pam begins this next phase of her life, it is important that we not contact her or Erik to allow them time to settle into their new lives. In addition, it is important that beginning in August we allow space for Rev. Donna to become a part of DUUF by allowing her to wholeheartedly serve as our minister. If you need to talk before Rev. Donna arrives in August or if you have any questions, please reach out to us at  board@dentonuuf.org or contact a Board member in person or the Committee on Ministry in person or at com@dentonuuf.org.

Love and peace,

Nancy Gaige

Board President

Announcements

Rachel and Pam gave a gift of Special Little Prayer Rocks to children on Sunday. If your child didn't get one, there are a few left. Check the welcome wagon the next time you are at DUUF.

Thanks to those who donated to our Second Offering Sunday to raise funds for the OUTreach Denton and our Endowment Fund. We raised $646.72 for OUTreach Denton and $621.73, in addition to Pam’s generous gift of $1,500, for the Endowment Fund.

DUUF is hiring! Please share the news with our larger Denton community. We are looking for part-time teachers for our Sunday morning Upper Elementary class and for our Wednesday night Middle School youth group from outside of the congregation. Applicants for teaching positions must have an undergraduate degree in education, or comparable area, teaching experience in the grade levels for which they are applying, and able to articulate their approach to teaching, learning, and classroom management. Interested applicants should review the principles and sources of Unitarian Universalism to be sure they align with their own values, as well as review online sample curricula (http://www.uua.org/re/tapestry). For more information, and to apply, please contact search@dentonuuf.org.

Apple Tree Project: DUUF is once again hosting the Apple Tree Project by Interfaith Ministries, to collect money and gift cards for kids in need. You can adopt one (or more!) Apples and return them with $25 in cash or gift card after either service from June 10-July 15. A volunteer will be in the Fellowship Hall with the Tree to assist you. We also need volunteers to staff the Apple Tree each Sunday - you can sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e4dabaf22a5f49-apple1. If you have any questions, please email socialaction@dentonuuf.org. Thanks for your support!

First Friday Parents Night Out: Thank you to everyone who has participated in Parents Night Out. PNO is on hiatus until further notice. We know this is a valuable program and hope to begin offering it again in the near future. Please stay tuned for future updates.
