The holidays are just around the corner so before things get too busy we wanted to update you on news from the U-T California 1020, Austin 1020 and the 1020 Series.

Inaugural U-T California 1020 - February 16, 2014

Finish Headliner Announced

Former lead guitarist of The Eagles, Don Felder and his band will headline the post race concert for the Inaugural U-T California 1020 playing songs from the Eagles! As a member of The Eagles for 27 years, Felder was responsible for co-writing their biggest hit Hotel California. Learn more about him by going to Our Bands on the race website. 

Finish the Fight Against Cancer

Join our Title Sponsor U-T San Diego and help finish the fight against cancer by fundraising for the American Cancer Society! Fundraising perks include a free entry to the U-T California 1020 and VIP treatment on race day. If you have already registered you can still raise money for ACS and get a refund for your entry fee. 1020 Gear Store

Just in time for the holidays, the 1020 Gear Store is open and running! Get the athlete in your life (or spoil yourself) some new workout gear to wear as they train for the U-T California 1020! 

10 Weeks to 10 Miles

New to running or just want to improve your time? Check out the 10 Weeks to 10 Miles training program! Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced plan levels can be found under Runner Perks on the website. The 10 week plan starts on December 9th

The Course

The coastal course has been finalized for the Inaugural U-T California 1020! Besides being one of the most scenic races in the country, the course will feature five water/electrolyte stations, 20 course bands and 10 cheerleader groups. For more course information click here.

Rock ‘n’ Roll

Do you know a great rock ‘n’ roll band that would want to play their music for 10,000 runners, walkers and spectators? If so, tell them to send an email to because we’re currently accepting course band applications! The Headliner band is being narrowed down between a few options and will be announced in early 2014. 

It’s All About the Bling!

The top secret medal design is in the works now! “Like” our Facebook page to see it once it’s been finalized. We can tell you that everything is “bling-y-er” in TX! ;)

Prize Money for Elites and Locals

The Austin 1020 has always offered prize money for the top male and female elite finishers but new for 2014, a Travis County Prize Purse will be offered to the top five male and female county resident finishers. Learn more under Awards and Prize Money on the website. 

Race Route

The Austin 1020 will start and finish at the same location as last year with the race route anticipated to be the same. The course will be flat and fast! Last year’s male winner ran the 10 mile course in 47:15 and the female winner posted a time of 55:31! To view the course map and elevation chart go to Race Information on the website. 

Out of Town Participants

Now is the time to book your hotel room if you are coming from out of town. Visit our Official Hotels page to choose the hotel best for you. Make sure to reserve your room via the provided link or mention the Austin 1020 room block to get the exclusive discounted race rate.
