Badger Boys State Elects 27 New Mayors

(RIPON, WI) – The 77th session of the Badger Boys State youth leadership program elected 27 mayors after days of campaigning and debate. “I decided to run for mayor because I want to empower the people I lead," said the newly elected Mayor Luc Marchessault of the Badger Boys State City of Goodland.  Mayor Marchessault is from Greendale, Wisconsin.  “Giving everyone a chance to speak their mind and take part in the decisions is important.  I believe a good leader gives people someone to look up to, provides motivation, and inspires others."
High School juniors, selected by their schools and community members, are attending Badger Boys State and spending eight days learning about all aspects of Wisconsin's city, county and state government. With the assistance of over 100 volunteer counselors, staff, and numerous prominent speakers, these young men learn everything from operating efficient government offices, passing ordinances, and balancing a budget.
"Mayor Marchessault is a vital member of Goodland city leadership," said Samuel Butler, City Counselor of Goodland. "I truly see him as a natural born leader who will go far both at Badger Boys State and in life beyond this week."
Monday also marked the start of Badger Boys State's Schools of Instruction, a series of topics taught by our talented staff and volunteers. Students are able to discuss either the career choice or the staff's passion in the fields of law, peace officer, leadership, public speaking, any many more.
