H.R. 1344 to Reauthorize EHDI Programs Needs Your Support!

108On March 10, 2015,  H.R. 1344, the “Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act of 2015” was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Congressman Guthrie (R-KY) and Congresswoman Capps (D-CA). In order for this to become law, it will need some co-sponsors and a lot of support. What is the best way to get that support? You, of course! Call your representative today and ask that he co-sponsor this bill. EHDI means infant hearing screens, early intervention for babies with hearing loss, and parent to parent support programs for families. All together, EHDI means better outcomes for deaf and hard of hearing children.

Wait, what is this bill?  Can I look it over first?

But who is my representative, and how do I contact him?

Hold on now, I'm no lobbyist! What would I even say if I did call?

bebe-habla1. Introduce yourself. Clearly state that you live in Delaware and that you are calling in reference to HR 1344.
2. Get to the right person: May I speak to or leave a message with Representative Carney's Legislative Director, Aide or Correspondent who specializes in health care issues?
3. If you leave a message, be succinct and include your name, location, telephone number and request, but be ready in case you get a person!

Try this:
Hello, my name is [your name]. I live in Delaware and am a parent of a child with hearing loss. I am calling to ask Representative Carney to cosponsor HR 1344, which reauthorizes the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program, introduced by Congressman Guthrie and Congresswoman Capps. The EHDI program has been important to my family because [how EHDI helped your family].
