Oh, Help Me Please!
Last month, I was pleased to be a speaker at the Troy Chamber of Commerce Annual Non-Profit Management Conference and my topic was "Energizing your Fund Raising Events - From Good to Great." It was such a pleasure for me to interact with a room full of like-minded professionals. As we went around the room to find out the type of events everyone was conducting, it was clear that many similar events were being held by each organization. However, each organization had their own twist. We then began to learn from one another. The room became electric as ideas were
being tossed back and forth. I think what everyone learned that day is that at some point all events can get stale or reach a plateau. It doesn't matter if your budget is small or large - money is not the answer. When this happens, we need to talk with our peers and have brain-storming sessions to come up with new options. If you can't do that, start a google search for new ideas. Reach out to your members and ask them if they have attended a fund-raising event recently. What ideas could they share with you?
At Meeting Coordinators, Inc., we are fortunate to have many talented meeting planners on staff along with the fact that we organize hundreds of meetings. We have our internal group of experts to develop ideas, but even we can hit a wall when it comes to creating a theme or games. When that happens, we pull out our arsenal! We reference our books on kid's games! You may be inviting 30-80 year olds to your event, but everyone is a kid at heart. Create a tea party, cowboy/cowgirl chuck wagon, space odyssey, beach party or road rally. Once you start getting creative with the event, it is only natural that the fun will follow for your attendees.
I know many business cards were exchanged during my session with the Troy Chamber participants. I hope that all of these attendees are networking and creating their go-to groups to develop ideas. I want to also remind everyone that Meeting Coordinators, Inc. offers a FREE Meet Up every other month for planners to join us to network and ask for advice. You will notice the details on the July 14th Meet Up below. Hope to see you there!
