Undercover "Meeting Planner"

There is a successful TV program where the Boss of the organization changes his/her appearance and goes to work for their company as an employee.  It is always fascinating to learn what they find out about the culture and operation of the company.  Since our staff at Meeting Coordinators, Inc. is small, I don’t think I could come in dressed in a disguise and be able to pull that off.  However, I do have an opportunity to attend a National Conference in Washington, D.C. on behalf of my client.  I will be attending as a regular registrant, not the planner, and I’ll be both the critic and fan.  I will be on the receiving end of the “customer experience.” The lessons learned will be extremely valuable, and I hope to have some words of wisdom to share with you in planning your events in the next newsletter.

Did you know…..?

With the World in turmoil, safety and security (along with prayers) are not only on my mind but on the minds of many. Since I will be getting on an airplane soon to attend a meeting in Washington, D.C., an interesting article about airline boarding passes jumped out to me to read. I’d like to share the advice with you.

The article http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/10/whats-in-a-boarding-pass-barcode-a-lot/ cautions travelers not to be careless with their boarding pass. There is a trove of personal information listed on boarding passes that anyone with a computer can access. Within the typed text is your name and flight number, which hackers can use to fish out additional personal data. But the biggest culprit is the barcode, which holds the passenger’s frequent-flyer number and other identifiable information that’s best kept private. The article goes on to say that if printing boarding passes is the most convenient method for you, be sure to hold on to the paper and then shred them at home. There is another option to consider. Many airports are equipped to issue and scan electronic boarding passes right on your smartphone, eliminating any worry about paper getting into the wrong hands. I will be adhering to their advice and wish all of you safe travels too.

Success Stories...

We are so proud of our client Women in Defense for their outstanding Black Tie event this month.  Their 2015 Excellence in Leadership Award was presented to Dr. Jennifer A. Hitchcock, SES, Executive Director, Research & Technology Integration, U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan. Dr. Hitchcock’s career and professionalism is to be admired and respected. To learn more about Dr. Hitchcock please refer to http://www.army.mil/article/128359/

During the evening Women in Defense once again honored our military by the presentation of the Missing Man POW/MIA Table Ceremony. I have discussed this ceremony in previous newsletters but each time I see it I am more emotional than the last. The  table is set for six, one for each service - the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and civilian personnel - representing personnel missing in action or taken as prisoners of war.

We did not record the evening’s ceremony but I did find a film on YouTube that is an excellent representation
