tastings
This Friday, 1/27/12, taste these five new arrivals:

L'Idylle Cruet 2009--a Savoie white seemingly tailor-made for a traditional Raclette.

Toluca Lane Pinot Noir 2009--taking the term 'small production' to a new level.

Denois Garrigues 2010--a new vintage of an old friend.

Reyes DO Bullas Monastrell 2009--a warm and delightful red from southeast Spain.

Antica Enotria Nero di Troia 2009--an unheard of grape of Italy's heel. Rustic, dense, and chewy.

nuance

Vincent Pinard's Sancerre are our new benchmarks for the appellation. His wines are at once lively, limpid, and electric. But then again, they're complex, aromatic, and rich. Nuance is aptly named and almost criminally good. Chene Marchand is Pinard's top wine and perhaps the finest Sancerre we've ever tasted.

Hi Food Dude,

For those that attended our Big Night PotPie event back in November, you'll remember a real good time. For those that missed out, here's opportunity #2. The feature this time around:

The Cabbage

The humble brassica oleracea, cultivated in virtually every corner of Europe, is a staple of the wintertime table. Braised, sautéed, fermented, or slawed, the cabbage grows virtually anywhere and suits any budget. For our purposes we want it STUFFED, or chou farci, by French standards.

A test batch has just come from the oven courtesy of Kitchen Cru--filled with sausage, rice, and spices, and bathed in a tomato-y sauce. A wonderful little packet of goodness.

cabbage 2Hungry yet?

Please join us Saturday, February 4th, from 5pm-8pm, for a casual meal of stuffed cabbage, crusty bread, and a nice wine tasting.

Here's how it works:

Please reply to this email with your reservation. At the time, please tell us how many will attend and whether you'd like a meat or a meatless version. (or both)

Cost for the event is...get ready for it...$15. Fifteen Washingtons for a tasting of 5 wines and a generous plate of stuffed cabbage. Hard to beat.

For wine, we're thinking about a "mountain tour" of some high elevation reds and whites from throughout Europe. This could mean wines from the Pyrenées, Central France, the Vosges, and the Alps. Delicious, provincial, slurpable wines to go with some hearty food.

musellaPlus, just like the first Big Night, we'll offer a special pour of some limited red and/or white wine at $10 glass. This will be wine that retails for $40-50 that you might night typically buy a bottle of, but would be happy to try by the glass. This evening will feature a stunning Sancerre from Vincent Pinard called Nuance, and a teeth-staining Musella Amarone 2007. (both of these would be worth showing up to taste anyway!)

This will be a casual evening for milling around and enjoying the food, wine, and company. Plenty of tables and chairs will be set up though, in order to sit down and enjoy your grub.

Write us back now so we know you're coming and can prepare enough food! No set time for reservations. This means you can "come and go" anytime between 5pm and 8pm.

We hope you can join us!

Winter Hours
Until Daylight Savings Time begins we're open Tues-Sat from 11am-6pm. On Fridays though we'll go as late as you wanna go!
