One More Week: Protect SMART
Can you help for a few hours?
SMARTbanner4
We're still working hard to protect the SMART Pathway and Train from a misguided effort to repeal its funding measure. If you have any questions about what's really happening with the project, please read this Op Ed co-authored by Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition ED Gary Helfrich and Lisa Wittke Schaffner of Sonoma County Alliance.

Do not sign any petition regarding SMART. The only paper petition being circulated about SMART is the one to repeal Measure Q, the 1/4 cent sales tax that funds it.

Unfortunately, those circulating the petition are not being honest about what they're circulating. SMART Riders Coalition members have reported hearing repeal petitioners telling would-be signers that the petition supports SMART, or that it just repeals the sales tax measure but it will "rebuild" the project.

It's simply not true. The Repeal SMART campaign's goal is to stop SMART in its tracks and if it succeeds it will mean no project: no pathway, no train. They must submit their petitions to the Sonoma County Registrar of voters for January 27th.

So, there's not much time.

Many Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition members and supporters worked very hard to get Measure Q passed because we see the value of a multi-modal transportation project that will increase the capacity and connectedness of our bicycle network.

We must not give up now.

The SMART Riders Coalition is conducting a peaceful pro-SMART outreach effort, and needs volunteers to leaflet. If you can help this weekend, RSVP to Annie@conservationaction.org or call 707-480-2315. Volunteers will meet up at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. You'll receive the location when you RSVP.

Please do everything you can to spread the truth about SMART. This project will do so much to improve our bicycle network, and our transportation future.

Thank you!
