Action Alert Reminder: Cotati Tonight 7pm
Speak up in favor of a truly complete street

Make a difference for our multi-modal transportation future!Tonight, the Cotati City Council will decide whether to move forward with a proposed 2-lane redesign of the segment of Old Redwood Highway between highway 116 and the hub.
Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition will attend the meeting and urge City Council to vote in favor of the Village Main Street option (as opposed to a 4-lane City Boulevard option).
The Village Main Street option will:
- effectively reduce automobile traffic speeds while maintaining traffic volumes
- increase safety for bicyclists by providing great Class II bike lanes and reducing auto speeds
- increase safety for pedestrians (including those who move more slowly) by creating shorter crossing distances and slower auto speeds
- increase the small-town charm of Cotati by making this portion of Old Redwood Highway match the style of the wonderful segment to the south of the hub
- create a truly complete street that will work for all road users (including delivery trucks)
Please join us tonight in Cotati to ask City Council approve the two-lane with roundabouts (Village Main Street) option. Approval does not mean the design is finalized -- it simply defines which concept will be used; the City will continue to refine the design based on community input.
The meeting is at 7:00p.m. at Cotati City Hall. Please view the project details here: http://ci.cotati.ca.us/sections/departments/pw-redwood-highway-project.cfm
SMART jobs for the Holidays!
Join the rally. 12/21 San Rafael City Hall. Noon.

Join Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition and the SMART Riders Coalition for the SMART Jobs for the Holidays Rally on December 21st at noon at San Rafael City Hall, 1400 5th Avenue in downtown San Rafael.
SMART is under attack by a small group of individuals who are attempting to kill the SMART train and pathway project forever.
Join us to let your voice be heard. Support the SMART Train and Pathway project allowing for a world-class multi-modal transportation system for the North Bay.
Please bring signs in support of SMART and join us for the SMART Board meeting following the rally (the public meeting begins at 2:30 PM, check the board agenda for agenda changes). It is important for SMART supporters to attend this meeting to speak on behalf of the SMART Train and Pathway.
If you can make this rally and/or the meeting, please RSVP to Sandra@BikeSonoma.org.
SMART will provide: * A 70-mile world class passenger train AND bicycle/pedestrian multiuse pathway from Cloverdale to Larkspur * Approximately 900 jobs in the region * Sustainable transportation choices for Sonoma and Marin counties * An alternative to Highway 101 traffic congestion * Transportation choices for our aging population * Clean, green transportation for this and future generations
Regardless of whether or not you can make the rally, there are several things you can do today, including:
1. Decline to Sign- Anti-SMART people are working to gather signatures throughout our communities to kill SMART. Please do not sign the anti-SMART petition.
2. Help Leaflet- The SMART Rider’s Coalition has a team of supporters that are working on the ground to educate the public about the importance of SMART for this and future generations. This is an important way you can directly help to keep SMART on track. If you can volunteer, please contact Ben Boyce at: ben.boyce@sbcglobal.net.
3. Support SMART using your favorite social networking site- Please “like” SMART Riders on the SMART Riders Facebook page, or click “like” in the upper right corner of this page. You can follow SMART Riders on Twitter too. Thanks so much, and hope to see you at the rally in San Rafael on December 21st!
