CMC faculty and students at Flower Piano event at SF Botanical Gardens

Erik Walker

Many people in CMC's community were drawn to the San Francisco Botanical Gardens to play one of the twelve pianos planted there by Sunset Piano in July. The event, entitled Flower Piano, was a combination of scheduled performances and time for passers-by to sit down and play if they felt inspired to. Since then, we've been hearing from CMC piano faculty members about the many moments of joy and curiosity sparked in the gardens during that time. CMC's Marissa Balonon-Rosen, Allison Lovejoy, Erik Walker, and Joe Willcockson participated. Here are a few photos and video from them to give you a glimpse of Flower Piano.

Book review: The Latestarters Orchestra

By Harriet Raftor

I think that all books on music meditate on how to live, and certainly The Late Starters Orchestra debates the qualities of a well-lived life and the discipline which music demands: “When he was ninety-one, Casals was...asked, ‘Maestro, why do you continue to practice?’ Casals replied, ‘Because I am making progress.’
