On Monday and Wednesday afternoons after school, children ages 8-12 flock to the Mission District Branch to attend the Children’s Chorus, one of the many tuition-free programs offered at CMC. Anh Lê had the chance to visit all the Chorus class sessions in October and hear the joyful voices of the children. The children are rehearsing for their next Chorus Concert, which will be held at the CMC on November 15, 2015 at 1:00 PM.

Sean Jones Visits CMC Teen Jazz Orchestra

sean jones at cmc Sean Jones, artist in residence with SF Jazz, came to speak with CMC Teen Jazz Orchestra directed by Marcus Shelby on October 27. Sean heard students play a couple of songs, gave them feedback and jammed with them. He also shared “woodshedding information” such as when to use a whole note scale, ways to practice improvisation within the blues chord structure, feedback on how the rhythm section can tighten its groove, and how musicians, when they listen to each other can communicate through the language of jazz. Read more about Sean's lively visit.
