Chemical Engineer tapped as Energy Institute's interim head 

schwank2Professor Johannes Schwank, right, has been named interim director of the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute as U-M leadership launches a national search for a new, permanent director. The move results from the departure of MMPEI Director Dennis Assanis for Stony Brook University where he will serve as provost. 


Support for advanced turbine research

Mspinning turbine 2MPEI faculty fellows from the College of Engineering have won two of 10 recently awarded Department of Energy grants for research on the advanced turbines that will help future power plants provide clean, low-cost energy.


International research collaboration launches second year of funding

Phoenix_colorU-M and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have chosen six research teams to win a share of $1.05 million in funding for renewable energy and biomedical projects in the second year of a joint program that teams up researchers from both schools.

Converting CO2 to storable, solar fuels

Ragsdale Thumb II 3U-M and Oxford researchers shed new light on the promise of using sunlight to convert carbon dioxide into storable fuels. Their work was recently highlighted in the Royal Society of Chemistry's journal, Energy & Environmental Science.
