To all of the veterans and military families who are part of the Veterans Legal Services Community, thank you for your service and sacrifice. Tonight, we will honor you by gathering together with VLS’s friends and supporters committed to helping veterans in need, many of them veterans themselves.
The evening also marks the end of the 2016 Kraft Firm Challenge, in which Boston’s top law firms responded to Robert Kraft’s challenge to match a generous gift of a two-year $100,000 grant. VLS met this challenge in 2015, and the Kraft Firm Challenge has VLS well on its way to meeting the challenge in 2016.
Thank you to all the dedicated Challenge Captains who volunteered their time to this effort and to the many donors who embodied the ideal of thanking veterans for their service with action.
VLS would like to offer special thanks to the following outstanding contributors:
Top individual contributors: Dan & Amy O’Connor
Top firm contributor: Ropes & Gray, who raised over $10,000 (led by Captains Mike Homer & Dave Soutter)
Highest Level of Staff Participation: Davis Malm & D’Agostine (led by Captains Jim Gallagher, Tony Hewett, and Joanne Thorud)
In total, the dedicated Challenge Captains raised over $31,000 from 11 firms and 155 contributions. Without this financial support, VLS would be unable to continue its work helping greater Boston’s most vulnerable veterans resolve legal barriers to move on to lead dignified lives.
VLS prides itself on the efficient use of your donations. Last fiscal year, it was able to leverage a budget of approximately $550,000 to provide over $2 million in legal services to over 500 low-income veterans in need.
On behalf of everyone at VLS and the veterans we serve, THANK YOU for helping us thank our veterans not just in words, but in action. We will leave you with this:
WHY I GIVE TO VLS FROM ROBERT KRAFT
"As I've learned more about Veterans Legal Services, I've been impressed with their unwavering dedication and ability to provide expert legal counsel to veterans who are facing challenging and complex legal issues. I've learned that legal problems are often what stand between our veterans being in a stable place with a home, family and job, versus being homeless and alone. Simply put... Veterans Legal Services is changing veterans' lives through their unrelenting efforts."
-- Robert K. Kraft
Our warmest regards to you, those who serve, and those whose families have sacrificed in service to our country,
