Girls Soccer is in full swing. All
teams have ordered and are awaiting their practice Allen soccer t-shirts and
sweat top/pants. We are purchasing red shorts so everyone will look the same as
we practice. The High school has just received their name tags to put on their
lockers. Freshmen still are in borrowed PE lockers until the gym is restored.
First period freshmen have been
introduced to the following; the weight room where on Tuesday they have
a 15 station rotation on the upper and lower machines. Thursday they move
down to a 6 station circuit which they complete twice with pull ups, dips
sit ups, roll outs , 5 lb burnouts, bar work and leg curls. Monday and Wednesday they
work on speed work with dynamic flex and quickness routines. Each day is
soccer and they have learned the types of passes that we want..possession,
entry and penetration . They have been placed in boxes on the field to
make runs to and away from the ball and to switch the point of attack. Each Friday
we put it all together with 11 v 11 games. We are improving each week.
At the high school in 2nd/5th
periods we have soccer Monday, Wednesday, Friday and conditioning Tuesday/Thursday. We break them
up each day into VITs (Varsity in training) and Varsity. In soccer it has
been principles of defense with step, drop and switch as a unit. We place them
in game situations with 6 v 4 on possession..lose it and it is 4 v
6. We too have worked on 5 yard boxes to move out of to pass and
receive.
In fitness , Coaches Carter
and Paxton have started to push them harder. Carter has the weights; free ,
sleds, push ups and sit ups with step ups and roll outs. Paxton uses her
Performance course experience to work on quick sprints and agilities. Coach
Albury has videotaped all three teams and the workouts should be on line to
soon so you can watch them at work.
Eagle cards were given out and each
player has to sell just four. They sell for $10 and half of that goes to the
soccer program to buy uniforms, equipment. We are submitting our requests for
new uniforms and equipment. The booster club drive yielded 38 families on the
girls side signing up at the $40, $75 or $100 level . We need more to join
as we have to order uniforms now and with a $2000 shortfall from last years
budget, we need every penny to look good and have the best equipment.
Our girls have started to
volunteer..first at the Eagle Cup and now with local recreational ASA
teams to help out at their practices once a week. We plan to go to the
elementary schools in October to read and help out.
Schedules are finalized and will be
posted on the website this week, together with our JV tournament in January with 16
quality teams.
Finally congratulations to seniors
Chandler Robertson, Tori Spears, Shannon Moroney, Teri Todd and Kalee Smith who
were elected Varsity captains.
