East Science Olympiad Club Needs Your Help. East Science teacher Amy Hanson has started a club to compete in the Colorado Science Olympiad. The Science Olympiad is a national event with local and regional competitions in 23 areas. Ms. Hanson needs volunteers to work with students in various science and technology areas. If you have a background in either, please contact Ms. Hanson to volunteer.
East Arts Showcase. Volunteers are needed to help with an inaugural event to showcase visual arts, music and drama at East. We are forming a committee to develop the event and need your help! Please email Jody Chapel if you are interested in helping develop this community event to showcase East’s fantastic arts departments.

2nd Annual Arranging Projects Night And Art Show -Tuesday, January 24. The Vocal Music Department and Art department will combine to present the 2nd annual Arranging projects night and Art Show from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Students in choir classes are currently working on small group arranging projects and the most polished from each choir will perform at this event.
Family Corner Coffee – Monday, January 30. During January, East is launching the FAMILY CORNER on the main floor in the foyer. Stop by for important news, networking opportunities, and resources. Join us during the Monday Morning Coffee on January 30 – meet other parents and catch up on East events. of each month (7:00am-8:30am).

Denver Museum of Nature and Science Presents a Free After Hours Event for Teachers, PTA members and School Administrators. The DMNS is sponsoring a free preview of Lizards and Snakes on Monday, February 6 from 6-9 pm. Participants will preview Lizards and Snakes and have the opportunity to view one of two IMAX movies. You must register in advance to participate.
See “In the Land of Blood and Honey” at the Denver Film Center for $5.00. In the Land of Blood and Honey opens exclusively at the Denver Film Center, across the street from East, on Friday, January 13 and continues through Thursday, January 19. East students and faculty with an ID will pay $5.00 to see the show. Visit the Denver Film Society’s website for show times.
Pay School Fees Online. Parents and guardians can now pay their students’ fees online. Click here for instructions on how to register for online fee payment on the Infinite Campus site.
School of Choice Forms Due January 31. If you have a middle school student that is hoping to attend East but does not reside within the attendance boundaries, you must submit a School of Choice Form by January 31, 2012.
COUNSELING CORNER and OTHER COLLEGE PLANNING OPPORTUNITIES
FREE SAT PRACTICE TEST AND SCORE BACK. The Crowley Foundation invites East Students to take an SAT practice test on Saturday February 18 and return on Saturday, February 25 to review their score. The event is administered by the Princeton Review and will be held at Rachel B. Noel Middle School, 5290 Kittredge St. in Denver. College Boards. SAT and ACT are scheduled throughout the Spring. Visit the Counseling Update on the East website for test dates, registration deadlines and other important information.

Concurrent Enrollment. If your student is interested in going to college but is worried about finances, you should look into concurrent enrollment. This program allows high school students to take college classes that are paid for by the district. In addition, students will get dual credit for each college class they take. Schools that students may attend range from the Community College of Denver to Emily Griffith Technical College. The deadline for initial paperwork was November 16th.
