PTSA MEETING – MONDAY, OCTOBER 3 at 7:00 PMNew-East
Please join us in the Commons on Monday, October 3 at 7:00 pm for our PTSA meeting. We will have a brief business meeting followed by an At-Large School Board Candidate Forum.  Candidates John Daniel, Frank Deserino, Happy HaynesRoger Kilgore, and Jacqui Shumway will join us to tell us what they would bring to the school board and answer questions from our membership.

PTSA meets on the first Monday of every month (the second Monday if school is not in session).  We conduct PTSA business at the beginning of the meeting and then hear from a speaker.  A complete list of our PTSA meeting dates and topics is available on our website.

ANGEL PACK PROGRAM NEEDS ASSISTANCE – 1 HOUR  TWICE A MONTH
The East Angels Friends and Alumni Foundation (EAFAF) sponsors the East Angel Packs program to provide nutritious food to students in need.  The program partners with the Food Bank of the Rockies and needs volunteers to help unload food at East twice a month. If you are interested in helping the Angel Packs program, please contact Diana Bray.

PROJECT SUCCESS SERIES – STAYING CONNECTED WITH YOUR TEEN – COMING IN OCTOBER
Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students) is a school-based intervention program designed to prevent and reduce substance abuse among adolescents.  East is fortunate to have Debbi Philips and Project Success on-site at East.  She will be conducting a free 5-night series on “Staying Connected with your Teen” on Tuesdays, October 4, 11, 18, 25 and November 1.  The meetings will be from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in Room 223 at East.  Please contact Debbi Philips at 720-423-8342 or Deborah_Philips@dpsk12.org for more information and to sign-up.

FIRST ANNUAL FALL CARNIVAL – THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27 AT EAST
Our school families and neighbors are invited to attend East’s first annual Fall Carnival! Come for an evening of treats and fun sponsored by East clubs, sports teams and partnering organizations.  The event runs from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Main Foyer. There will be a $1.00/per child donation.  Families and children ages 0-13 are welcome to participate.  High school students can attend if accompanied by a parent/guardian.  Unaccompanied children and high school students will not be allowed in.  Dress up in your favorite costume and participate in the costume contest, jumping castle, raffles, building tours, prizes, candy and more!

COUNSELING CORNER – GET YOUR CHILD READY FOR COLLEGE!
In each newsletter we will try to provide information from our counseling office.  Here are some highlights:
  • PSAT is s a standardized test, taken predominantly by Juniors, that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®.  It also gives students a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. The test is scheduled for October 15th at East.  The cost is $20 when your student signs up in the treasurer’s office.
  • You and your student can get updated college information on Naviance. Please make sure your student  checks his or her Naviance account regularly. If you are not sure how to access Naviance, you can have your student contact their counselor or Carla Castillo in the future center  at 720.423.8436.
  • SAT and ACT are scheduled throughout the fall.  Visit the Counseling Update on the East website for test dates, registration deadlines and other important information.
EAST ANGELS FRIENDS AND ALUMNI FOUNDATION (EAFAF) NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!
EAFAF raises money to support many programs at East.  The East Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is an affiliate member of the foundation. Currently, EAFAF is selling King Soopers re-loadable grocery cards for $50. To purchase a card, contact Carol McDermott at d3dirk@aol.com or download the form and send it in.
