The Churchill Booster Club and Athletic Department invites all students in the pre-high school Churchill cluster to enjoy an exciting night of varsity basketball during the first Annual Winter Season Community Night, on Friday, Jan. 10, in the main gym. Join us for back-to-back girls and boys varsity basketball games vs. Richard Montgomery. The girls varsity game begins at 5:15 PM and the boys varsity game begins at 7 PM. This event includes free admission to students from Cabin John and Herbert Hoover middle schools as well as Bells Mill, Beverly Farms, Potomac, Seven Locks and Wayside elementary schools. Churchill Hockey teams have started their respective seasons with mixed results. Churchill Hockey Varsity I team has come out strong with a 5-0 record as it defends last year’s State title. Victories thus far were over Archbishop Spalding, Richard Montgomery, Georgetown Prep, Walt Whitman and Sherwood. Scoring leaders for the team include sophomore Junmno Kim (5), junior Ross Allen (5), and senior Connor Liu (4). Churchill Hockey Varisty II has started 0-4 with tough games against Dematha, Whitman, BCC, and Atholton. The team has demonstrated depth as scoring leaders include freshman Alex Abraham (2), junior Andy Greenberg (2), senior Aaron Renberg (1), junior Zach Silver (1), freshman TJ Scanlan (1) and sophomore Sam Kinney (1). Following a successful Girls Varsity Soccer season, WCHS senior Carly Shapiro, captain, capped her final turn as a Bulldog soccer team member by earning the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Senior Excellence Award. The award allows a coach to recognize a senior who has made a significant contribution to the team while displaying the finest attributes of being both a team player and a team leader. In addition, Shapiro was named to the All-State second team as well as the
*WCHS diver senior Mashal Hasham recently confirmed plans to dive for Northwestern University women's swim and dive team.
*Churchill baseball pitcher standout senior Eric Brodkowitz has committed to the 'Bulldogs' for four more years as he recently revealed that, upon graduation, he will head to the mound for the Yale Bulldogs.
*Taking to the ice, longtime figure skater, senior Laura Bretscher delighted the audience in her tenth place finish when she recently competed in the 2013 South Atlantic Regional Championship in North Carolina.
With such busy schedules this time of year, the Churchill boys basketball team invites you to support the program and also have a night away from cooking. Come to Potomac Pizza in Potomac Village on Thursday, Dec. 12, anytime between 4 PM and 9 PM. Either print the attached flier and bring it with you, or just mention "CHURCHILL BASKETBALL" when you place your order and proceeds will go toward the boys basketball program.
