Synthetic Turf Field Approved
The CHS Booster Club is pleased to report that on June 3, the Montgomery County Board of Education approved the proposal to install a synthetic turf field at Shepherd Stadium sponsored by our partnership with Bethesda Lacrosse Association and Potomac Soccer Association. This partnership enables the Booster Club to participate in the design and construction of the new field, and to work with County officials to ensure that neighborhood concerns are met. While our partners will finance the vast majority of the cost of this project, the Booster Club is still committed to raising $250K towards installation of the field. In the very near future, we will announce our fundraising initiatives and how you can participate in this exciting endeavor. Pictured above: Wootton High School's Synthetic Turf field completed 2013. The CHS Varsity Baseball team is shown holding a banner for umttr, a philanthropic organization created to raise awareness about teenage depression and suicide. umttr, which hosts community events and fundraisers in the Washington, D.C., metro area, was founded in 2013 by CHS students and families in response to the tragic suicide of fellow student Evan Rosenstock in May, 2013. To prevent other student-athletes from ever feeling alone or desperate, umttr strives to make every student realize: You matter. The organization, which raised $25,000 at its inaugural basketball tournament in September, recently partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance to support the formation of a Mid-Atlantic chapter. Evan's mother Susan (standing to the right of the banner, next to Varsity Coach Scott Blackwood) was among the umttr volunteers promoting the organization, selling t-shirts and snacks and supporting the CHS Varsity Baseball team at its Senior Recognition game on May 3.In other Varsity Baseball news, senior captain Eric Brodkowitz was selected to the 1st team All-Division and senior captain Matt O’Lone was selected to the 2nd team All-Division.
Boys Tennis completed a successful season with a second place finish in regular season play. William Szamosszegi, Blake Morton and Luka Jeremic, as well as Elliott Thaker in mixed doubles, made it to the Regional Tournament Semi Finals.

In Mixed Doubles, Churchill's Katie Gauch won her second state Mixed title in a row but with a new partner in Elliott Thaker as they defeated Eden Sela and Justin New of WJ, 6-3, 6-2.
