The American Postal Workers Union has launched a misleading national ad campaign in direct  response to the Postal Reform Act that we have been championing. The ad campaign claims that the USPS is completely self-sufficient, running solely on revenue generated through stamps. In fact, the USPA runs an annual deficit of more than $8 billion. The bill is authored by Congressman Darrell Issa, and he issued a blistering response to the blatant lies advanced by the Union political ads. In a letter to the leader of the American Postal Workers Union, Congressman Issa debunks the idea that the United States Postal Service is self-sufficient and concludes by saying:
“While you and I have significant differences of opinion on how the Postal Service should be reformed, I believe we must be clear about the underlying facts. I ask you not to engage in a campaign to mislead the American people.”
We are leading the way in support of this critical legislation. Already, we have sent more than 80,000 letters to leaders in Congress asking that they support this important legislation. This common-sense legislation addresses the more than $8 billion annual deficit by reducing mail delivery days from six days to five days and authorizing the sale of advertising space. Together, we are going to pass this legislation saving the American taxpayer literally billions of dollars every single year. The advocates of big government fear this legislation because it is only the beginning.
