Easter worship this Sunday

Matthew tells two stories about the risen Jesus appearing.

The first time, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary have been told by an angel to look at the empty tomb and tell the disciples to go to Galilee. As the two Mary's run to tell the news, they are interrupted by Jesus.

Then the eleven disciples follow the instructions and gather on a mountain in Galilee. They worshiped Jesus and some doubted.

In both stories, people encounter the risen Jesus when they are already following his instructions. Although the women are afraid and the disciples have doubts, they trust enough to act.

That is the definition of courage: to act when uncertain of the outcome, to speak when unsure of the response, to proceed even when there is doubt.

Let’s be honest. It takes courage to follow almost every one of Jesus’ instructions. That stuff about loving enemies, forgiving, giving, praying…it’s hard, and often accompanied by doubts about whether it makes a difference or whether it’s realistic in this day and age.

But here is the good news. The same power that was at work to raise Jesus from the dead is the power that gave those women the courage to tell others. This is the same power that brought disciples to a place where they could worship Jesus, despite their doubts.

The power that was at work in Jesus’ resurrection is the same power is at work in us. It’s still Easter! Jesus is still alive!

In the church, every Sunday is Easter Sunday, because the resurrection power is at work in you and me.

I'll see you this Easter Sunday,

Pastor Cyndi

Children's Ministry

Sunday School:

The Wesley’s are here and our Sunday School lessons will be about John and Charles Wesley and how they started the Methodist Church.

We will share their Covenant of Discipleship with the children.

“To witness to Jesus Christ in the world and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.”

This fits so well with our study of Matthew where Jesus’ last appearance in the gospel is where he gives the disciples the Great Commission. He instructs the disciples to go make more disciples, to baptize, to teach, and to remember God’s promises.

BBQ and Sweet Shop: Volunteers Needed April 24 & 25!

The United Methodist Men’s Ministry will once again host our Spring BBQ, while the United Methodist Women offer delicious baked goods at their Sweet Shop!

While this is always a great fundraiser for many important missions, as well as a fun event, it takes LOTS of volunteers to pull it off, so please sign up to help where you can!

To sign up to work at the Women’s Sweet Shop or to bring baked goods, please check a box on the back of the Connect Card in your Sunday bulletin.

To help with the BBQ, please see any member of the Men’s Club or contact the church office to find out where you can help.

Your neighbors and coworkers want to know about the Barbecue. FLYERS are available in the sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. Please take one for yourself and several for friends and family!
