In Heartfelt Love and Thankfulness

WOW, Karen and I thank God daily for bringing Mt. Carmel and you wonderful folks into our life. What a blessed and healing place to be. We are overwhelmed by your love and compassion for Karen’s journey and our needs both physical and spiritual along the way. Never have we been so touched and blessed.

Your outpouring of generosity and prayers for Karen and me yesterday caught me off-guard and struggling to keep it together. It is not too often I can’t speak, but my heart was bursting with emotion and the words stuck in my throat. I am grateful that Karen was able to fight through her tears and tell you how much your prayers and support have meant to her.

Our hearts are bottomless when it comes to the gratitude we have for your love and care for us.

Someone once said, “The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people.”

Karen and I are grateful that you are those “once in a lifetime kind of people” for us and we are looking forward to the continued shared love and caring from both sides – yours and ours. What a place to be in ministry at this juncture of our life.

In Heartfelt Love and Gratitude,
Rev. Michael & Ms. Karen Martin

To our Mt. Carmel friends,

We have just gotten the results of Andy's CT scan and were expecting the worst.  However we got the WONDERFUL news that his tumors are smaller and he is doing much better!

We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for your prayers for Andy.  We feel certain that they were a big part of this good news!

The Westafer Family

Lunch Bunch to Emerald China

Do you have lunch plans on Sunday? If not, the Lunch Bunch invites you to join them at Emerald China Restaurant at about 12:15 p.m. (In the Kroger shopping center at the corner of Peachtree Industrial Blvd. & Pleasant Hill Rd.) See Wynne Buran with any questions.

Norcross Cooperative Needs

As you know, the Mt. Carmel congregation supports NCM with donations of food, baby items, and monetary donations to help those in need in our community.

At this time, NCM is in need of the following:

Rice - 1 lb bags or boxes
Potatoes - boxed or canned
Canned Meat  - no tuna please
Jelly - in plastic jars
Boxed Cereal
Meals-In-A-Can

Monetary donations may be made out to Mt. Carmel, marked for NCM, and dropped into the offering plate or delivered to the church office.

Thank you for helping out our neighbors in need!

Homecoming / Heritage Sunday:
August 19th - 10:30 AM

Plan to attend the combined 10:30 service on August 19th and join in singing some of Mt. Carmel's favorite hymns from the past, and celebrating the history of our church!

The service will be followed by a Pot-Luck Lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is asked to bring a dish or two to share. Drinks will be provided.

Mt. Carmel Women's Book Club

The next meeting of the Book Club will be on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hope House.

The book for September is, The Other Einstein, by Marie Benedict.

All women are invited to attend for refreshments and discussion - even if you haven't read the book!  See Chris Bolton or Vicki Walden for more information.

Youth News

The Mt. Carmel Youth will meet at 5:15 for dinner and program this Sunday.  Remember to bring your dinner!

For more information, see the Youth Newsletter HERE, or contact Youth Director, Emily Thompson.

Kids' Corner

Hope the return to school is going well for everyone as Summer is winding up and we are heading into the fall.

If you missed the Blessing of the Backpacks last Sunday, please bring them along this Sunday, and Rev. Michael will bless them during the Kids' Sermon, which will be delivered by Kristyl Kepley this week.

We will have our last summer Sunday School this week. Don't forget, Sunday August 19th is Homecoming Sunday, so we will have a single 10:30 service followed by a potluck lunch. Sunday, August 26, we will begin our fall SS program during the 9:30 service.

Ann Blue, Kristyl Kepley, and Jeanne Manget are joining Jason Campbell, Alison Alesi, and Lisa Grogin as Children's Sunday School teachers this fall. Thanks to you all for your dedication to our Children's Educational Ministry. Many thanks to Julie Jones and Cynthia Currence, who are taking a break this year, for their hard work and dedication last year. Please email me or drop a connect card in the offering plate if you would like to volunteer in our nursery (we have new babies :) or with our SS program. We can also use help this fall/winter with Fall Festival and our Christmas Pageant. Hope the return to school is going well for everyone as Summer is winding up and we are heading into the fall.
