Since Sunday

Since Sunday, several people have sent emails or called with questions and comments about the worship service.

Some of them were chances to express joy in the music at Mt Carmel.

Others talked about the videos. They laughed about the silly short with Tom Cooper, Katrina Stone, Elizabeth Sigmon, Isaac and Kate. You can see this, and other member mission moments, at the stories page of the church website

Most of the comments were about the video, This Is Who I Am, in which Ladonna Witmer describes her generation.

I watched this at least 10 times before Sunday. I had heard similar descriptions of Generation X, and yet she made the longings of this generation clear for me.

One person asked what to do: “I feel like I've been inspired, 'convicted' and 'pumped up' to do something...just not sure what to do now...and don't want this feeling to just fade away before I do something with it... I don’t want to lose this feeling of wanting to reach out to people like her.”

I know it sounds strange, but the best thing you can do is to pray. Ask God to make you aware of the people in your life who are like LaDonna, who long for relationships in which they can find truth and hope for something more.

The best thing you can do is to pray. This is not avoiding the situation, but allowing God to work within questions like “What am I holding onto that prevents me from being in relationships with those who are seeking God? Am I reluctant to be friends with those who are different? Am I so busy with my church activities that there is no room in my life for someone who has not found that answer in God? Am I afraid that I would not have the answers someone else needs?”

The best thing you can do is to pray that as you let go, there will be more room for God to work within. For what LaDonna, and others like her, need is to be in trusting relationship with people who know and trust God.

The first step we take as a Christian comes about because someone cares enough to share their spiritual lives with us. The second, third, and fourth steps we take as Christians come about through lives shared together and shared with God.

The best thing you can do, at any stage of the journey, is to share your life with God in prayer, to share your life with others who will help you grow as a disciple, and to share your life with those who need to know God.

I'll see you this Sunday,

Pastor Cyndi

Children's Ministry

Sunday School:

Our lesson this week is from Acts 13:1-2, 14:8-18. We will learn two new characters, Paul and Barnabas and their mission to spread the good news of the Bible. Their faith in God enabled them to do amazing things, but some of the people thought they were gods instead of realizing their power came from the one true god. We will learn some simple methods of praying for people.

Summer Sunday School:

In the summer we give our wonderful, dedicated Sunday School teachers the summer off, but that means we need some volunteers to teach during the summer months.

Our Focus this summer is going to be Children in Mission.  We will be learning about several mission opportunities as well as doing hands on mission work.

If you can volunteer for one or more Sundays, please check the boxes on the back of the Connect Card in Sunday bulletins, or contact Ms. Marian.
