Our Guests this Sunday

When I was a little girl, I used to love singing that song,
     Behold! Behold!
I come to the door and knock, knock, knock!

I especially liked the part in which we would make a fist and pretend to knock on a door. I was taught that Jesus was knocking on the doors of our hearts, knocking to enter and be part of our lives. That’s what it means to be a Christian, to allow Jesus to enter your heart and your life.

But Jesus never comes alone. Being joined to Jesus means that we are connected to everyone else who is tied to Jesus.

The Transformers Sunday School class knows this. They know that Jesus cares about those who are suffering from malaria. They know that Jesus’ heart breaks for those without clean water. And because Jesus cares, they told us that we needed to care, too!

Even though you haven’t met many people in Lubumbashi, District Republic of Congo and Nyadire, Zimbabwe, you gave to Imagine No Malaria to protect these and others from mosquito-born disease.

Even though you haven’t met many people in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic or the Quechuan communities in the Andes Mountains, you care that they have clean water, and fund Leave a Trace.

This Sunday in worship, we will have guests at both services. At 9:30, the transformers class will present a check to the Lee family for Leave a Trace and at 11:00 to Jamie Jenkins of Imagine No Malaria.

Both groups we be available between the services. I know that because you care about both of these groups, you will want to stay after the 9:30 service or come early for the 11:00 service, visit with them and say thank you for the ways they are showing Jesus’ love.

You gave from the heart. How else can we explain you giving $6000 to people that you have never met?

You gave from the heart of Jesus.

I'll see you--and some of Jesus' guests--this Sunday,
Pastor Cyndi

Please welcome her to Mt. Carmel!

Still Time to Sign Up for Altar Flowers

If you would like to have altar flowers placed in honor or in memory of someone in 2015, please contact the church office for available Sundays or check the box on the Connect Card in Sunday's bulletin.

Each arrangement is $40 and can be taken home after the 11:00 service if you wish.

(Please bring vases back to the church after the flowers are gone.  This saves the church the expense of buying new vases.)

And thank you to our wonderful volunteers who arrange the flowers also!  Susan Posey, Jacque Tapley, Dick Thompson and Lois Salter.

Children's Reading Books Needed

Once a week, beginning in January, Mt. Carmel is working with Berkeley Lake Elementary School to offer a Homework Club at Mt. Carmel for local elementary students.

Some of these students will need to work on reading and we would like to have a selection of pre-elementary through elementary age books to offer them.

If you have such books to donate, please bring them to the church office.  Thank you!

What to do with all of those Christmas Cards?

If you have no place to store all of the beautiful cards that you received over the holidays, but feel guilty throwing them away, here is the answer!

Save them for the Worship Arts Team!  This group is always looking for materials to use in upcoming artwork and arrangements for

the church and has requested that you bring your Christmas cards (or any greeting cards) by the church office to add to their supply. Thank you!

Women's Book Club

The next meeting of the Book Club will be on Friday, January 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

(Please note location change.)

This month's book is Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood by Alexandra Fuller.

All women are invited and January would be a great time to join!
Please contact Vicki Walden or Chris Bolton with any questions.

Trinity Soup Kitchen: Deadline Saturday!

If you signed up to bring soup or other items for the Trinity Soup Kitchen, the deadline for delivering these to the church is SATURDAY, JANUARY 10TH.

Please place the soup in the freezer in the church kitchen and other items on the counter. And please remember to mark it with your name.

Thank you for helping our Youth to serve those less fortunate.

Men's Retreat to Amicalola Falls:  Feb. 6 - 8

All men of the church are encouraged to attend the Men's Retreat weekend in February.  The group will travel to Amicalola Falls and stay in cabins there while enjoying fellowship, a great program, fun and delicious food!

If you'd like to go and need more information, you may contact the church office for contact information for the Men's Club, or see any current Men's Club member.

Wedding Congratulations!

We are happy to announce the marriage of Greta Kilmer and Joe Miller on Saturday, January 3, 2015!

We wish them many happy times together, along with Cela, Ethan and Alexander!

Life Line will once again offer Medical Screenings at Mt. Carmel on January 23: 8:30 AM until 5:30 PM

Many of you may not know that stroke is a leading cause of death today, affecting over 750,000 people each year. Every 45 seconds in America, someone suffers a stroke and every 3 minutes, someone dies from one. According to the National Stroke Association, approximately 97% of Americans cannot recognize the signs of stroke and that is why Life Line Screening, a leading mobile health screening service, will be here to offer life-saving ultrasound screenings this month.

These tests are not typically offered during a regular physical, as they are not usually covered by insurance, so for most of us, stroke prevention lies in our own hands.

Stroke can change your life, but it can also take your life. Please consider taking part in these life-saving screenings. By signing up for this health event, not only will you be able to receive $10 off any package of $149 or more, but Mt Carmel will also receive a $10 donation for every member who signs up and attends this Life Line Screening event. The Stroke, Vascular & Heart Rhythm Package includes four screenings: carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease and atrial fibrillation.

To schedule your appointment and to receive this special offer, please sign up only by either calling the dedicated Helping Hands phone number, which is 1-800-324-9458 or by visiting Join in the fight against vascular disease!
