Spilling Water All Over the Fellowship Hall

On Sunday, I asked you to remember your baptism in some way this week.

Baptism is more than a beautiful ritual; it changes who we are. Remembering that we are baptized means that we expect God to make a difference in our lives. In baptism, we trust in God to overcome sin and to bring transformation.

Our relationship with God always affects others. Consider the fruit of the spirit that God longs to grow within you: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). I guarantee that my peace and patience affects others when I drive in traffic on 285!

But seriously, love always has a direct object. You can love a person, you can love chocolate, or you can love creation. But you can’t just send out vague waves of love.

It’s the same for kindness. You can be kind to others, or even to yourself, but you can’t just be kind unless there is someone or something to whom you are kind.

Our relationship with God always affects others. That’s why the stewardship team put together a mission fair on Sunday to help us remember our baptism. We needed a chance to live out our baptism by helping others, and by getting to know others in the church with whom we are on this journey.

I loved watching you pack health kits for relief efforts, pack summer lunches for kids who would normally get a lunch at school, write cards and pray for the youth and counselors going on the mission trip, prepare for the children who will attend Vacation Bible School, and prepare housewarming gifts for those who will graduate from being homeless and part of Family Promise.

It seemed like the waters of baptism were dripping all over the Fellowship Hall!

Don’t forget that you are baptized. Put a post-it on your bathroom mirror, and pray in the morning that you would be open to how God would lead you this day. Tape a card on the refrigerator door, naming one of these fruits, so that when you get cold water you will remember to pray that God would grow this in you. In some way, trust yourself to God. And trust that this will affect others.

I'll see you this Sunday,

Pastor Cyndi

Children's Ministry

Sunday School:

Sunday School this week celebrates the day of Pentecost. (Acts:1-2) We all need to dress in flame colored clothing.

Part of our lesson is Paul’s letter to the Romans (Acts 8:18-39) in which he tells them and us that the Holy Spirit is our intercessor who hears our prayers and prays for us.

Summer Sunday School

Our wonderful teachers get recognized next Sunday, May 31 and they have the summer off. Our summer Sunday School lessons are focusing on children in mission and helping others. It will be very hands on.

Starting on the 31st there will no longer be Children’s Worship at 11:00. We are still providing a nursery for babies and toddlers and child care for 2- 5 year olds.

VBS - It’s almost Here!

If you did not make a prayer flag this past Sunday, please stop by the Fellowship Hall and make one. There are suggestions on what to put on the flags. I would like all church members to be represented at VBS with a flag.

Still Needed for VBS:

bags of white fiber fill,

5 oz paper cups

corn starch

Camp Glisson Retreat: Sept. 11 - 13

Deadline for $25 deposit is June 9

Wacky Wednesdays

Wacky Wednesdays are half days of fun and wild activities for preschool 4’s and elementary school children. The children are in mixed age groups. Everyone should bring a lunch and wear sneakers and clothes that can get dirty.

Cost is $5 per person and registration is limited so register today!

June 24 - Celebrate America

We will get ready to celebrate our country’s independence with fun games and crafts.

July 8 - Slime and Grime

It’s a time to get dirty and messy, but bring a swim suit for the slip and slide!

July 22 - Pizza and Pasta

Have fun celebrating everyone’s favorite Italian foods. We will cook lunch, play games and make a craft.

July 29 - More Everest

If you had fun at VBS, join us to play your favorite games, sing the fun songs, do some Imagination Station experiments and a “cool” craft.

Register for Wacky Wednesdays at:

Wear Red on Sunday!

This Sunday, May 24th, is Pentecost and everyone is encouraged to wear red or "flame colors" to represent the Holy Spirit!

Help Needed this Sunday after the 9:30 worship service

The final preparations for Vacation Bible School are beginning!

Following the 9:30 worship service on Sunday, helpers are needed to set up the PVC pipe frame that the stage curtains hang on in the Fellowship Hall.

If you have experience putting the frame together, you are REALLY needed!  The Children's Dept. thanks you!

Donors Needed for Red Cross Blood Drive:   May 27 - 2:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Our Outreach Committee has scheduled a Red Cross Blood Drive at Mt. Carmel on Wednesday, May 27th and lots of donors are needed!

Every pint donated can save up to THREE lives so please give if you can!

Click HERE to sign up online, sign up at the Blood Drive table in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays, or call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS.

MUST Summer Lunch Program

We are once again working with MUST Ministries to provide lunches to children who normally get free lunch during the school year. We will put together 200 lunches a day, the week of June 15 - 19 and are looking for volunteers to help make sandwiches and pack lunch bags each morning that week.  We start at 9:00 a.m. and are usually done by 11:00.

There will be a kick-off meeting on Sunday, June 14 to get set up for the week. We'll begin with a light lunch following the 11:00 worship service. Those who attend the 9:30 service can help fill bags after that service and stay for lunch, while those from the 11:00 service can eat first then help to set up for the week.

If you can help on Sunday or any week day, please call Joanne Ragon at 770-271-7350, or Suzanne in the church office to sign up.  This is a great opportunity to get to know church friends and have fun while helping our community.

We are also asking for donations of ham, turkey, bologna and cheese singles for the sandwiches, as well as snack-size bags of sweet and salty snacks and juice boxes.

Please see June Spruell after the 9:30 service on Sunday, or Joanne Ragon after 11:00 if you can donate any of these.

And finally, there are lunch bags to be decorated if anyone enjoys a quick art project!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sunday School Teacher Recognition on May 31 - 9:30 and 11:00

On Sunday, May 31st we will recognize our dedicated Sunday School teachers at both worship services.

If you are a teacher, please plan to attend so we can thank you for your hard work this year!

June 7th: 10:30 Children's Sunday and Fellowship Lunch

June 7th will be Children's Sunday at Mt. Carmel!  Plan to attend at 10:30 a.m. to see and hear from our children about their experiences at Vacation Bible School.

The service will be followed by a Fellowship Lunch provided by the Mt. Carmel Youth.  This is a fundraiser to support their upcoming International Mission Trip to Nassau, Bahamas.

The kid and adult friendly menu will be:  chicken tenders, mac-n-cheese, a salad bar, fruit salad, and cookies.  PB&J fixings will also be available.

Mark your calendar now!

June is Music Month at Mt. Carmel!

During worship services in June, we'll sing the hymns and songs our congregation finds most meaningful, so please send in your favorites!

Send to the church office, or list them on the Connect Card in your Sunday bulletin.

Mt. Carmel Women's Book Club

The Women's Book Club will meet again on Friday, June 12th at 7:00 p.m. This month the meeting will be at the home of Susan Posey.

This month's book is What Alice Forgot, by Liane Moriarity.

All women of the church are invited to join in
the discussion, followed by light refreshments.  See Chris Bolton or Vicki Walden for more information.

"Strikes for Jesus" Coming Soon!

On Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 AM, all bowlers are invited to the Brunswick Bowling Lanes on Spalding Drive to try to topple the reigning "Strikes" champion, Pekka Ignatius!

This is actually a "just for fun" fellowship event. ALL bowlers are invited, no matter how skilled, (or not!) and others are encouraged to come and watch.

Please contact Neil Odom if you would like to bowl at this fun event. (770) 827-2122 or nonojo413@gmail.com
