Holiday Lunch at Historic Rucker House Enjoyed by Members
The rainy day did not spoil the delicious lunch served in a beautifully decorated setting. Members had a chance to visit and a lovely time was had by all. Special guest was Kyle's daughter Camille.
A message from the President....
Happy New Year Ladies!
With the beauty and the activity of the holiday season still fresh, I am welcoming 2012 with renewed energy and excitement for the UAB Women’s Club. Last fall brought us together with our annual KickOff luncheon at the Woodward House, a tour and tasting at Ozan Winery, an educational presentation of the UAB Tone Your Bones program, a tour and food demonstration at Whole Foods Market and a most enjoyable holiday luncheon at Rucker Place. These opportunities for members and guests to physically meet, learn and share are so valuable and we can look forward to even more in the New Year. Details of upcoming programs can be found in this newsletter, on our website, in your yearbooks and by email/mail as the event dates approach. I hope to see as many of you as possible so mark your calendars and experience our community UABWC style!
While our monthly programs serve to bring us together in a very tangible way, we have another beautiful way of uniting that we demonstrate year after year through our Annual Scholarship Fund Drive. I am so very moved by the heartfelt and quiet generosity of our group. This year our Fundraising Committee used a lovely letter to remind, inform and invite us to take an “opportunity to invest in the future of women as they pursue their educational goals” at UAB. Your response has been beautiful. Thank you to all who have already made their tax-deductible contributions. Our scholarship drive never really ends. We will be able to collect funds for the 2012-2013 scholarships through February. All additional scholarship monies will be collected and applied to the following year’s fund.
It’s a New Year! Let’s make an even greater effort to reach out to eligible women within the UAB community and invite them to share in our friendship and our mission. With new members we can have a greater impact and have even more fun in the process!
Whole Foods Tour and Cooking Demonstration
On Friday, November 4th, several UABWC members gathered at the Whole Foods Market for a guided tour complete with holiday entertaining tips. We began in the colorful produce department with inspiration for holiday centerpieces incorporating pomegranates, cranberries, lemons and much more! Next we sampled spinach ice cream and loved it! As we progressed through the store, we saw and heard about so many wonderful services and products that Whole Foods has to offer. We rounded out our visit with a cup of hot cider and a healthy holiday food demonstration. Samples of the Creamy Cucumber Dip and the Cocoa-Oat Truffles were enjoyed by all. We were sent away with good feelings and a complimentary reusable shopping bag filled with recipes.
“Food for Thought”
A handful of members have been toying with the idea of putting together a UABWC recipe book to have for sale as a fundraising tool. With currently available software we know that we can assemble and print books as needed and thereby keep costs to a minimum. We are looking for ideas/concepts, recipes and interested women to get started. If you would like to get involved in this fun and fundraising effort, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Kyle Wick at 941-1049. We would love to get started as soon as possible with as many volunteers as possible!
Make the Scholarship Fund Drive a part of your New Year's Resolution!
Early response to our annual fundraising effort has been very promising. Many of our members acted quickly to begin building the scholarship balance. Your actions and generosity are sincerely appreciated. Keep those checks coming!
With the continued thoughtfulness and support of our membership, we hope to fund multiple scholarships again this year. Everyone’s help is needed to realize this goal. Please take a moment to make your tax-deductible contribution today and be a part of the UAB Women’s Club continued effort to support women and women’s education at UAB.
