Fair Play has a new website and new web address

Some IT-oik thought it funny to compromise our existing site and so we made the decision to change our site and web address.

Playing Up! gave us the template for the new design, which can be viewed on www.fairplayforchildren.net, existing features retained.

Thanks to our erstwhile IT guru Tudor Watson for his aid and support over many years, he has helped ensure the smooth transition.

The Future of Youth Services

There is to be a Parliamentary debate this month on a Private Members Bill which seeks to establish youth services more securely, although the premise that they are not already a statutory service still misleads, which is why Fair Play, although it welcomes the debate, believes the best course to be to ensure that the law that exists is better observed, and as crucially, monitored.

The 1996 Education Act (as amended by the 2006 Education & Training Act) has necessary measures to a degree, though Fair Play feels that amending it further with provisions in the above Bill would make it more effective and introduce the monitoring that lacks.

What Fair Play has already published on this

We also feel that the Government has taken a sensible step by announcing that it is to revisit the Statutory Guidance issued in 2012 re s507b of the 1996 Act, setting out between them what is required of local education authorities.   We are in contact with the Department DCMS on this matter and our approach has been met positively.    Fair Play will be arguing that Statutory Guidance needs to extend to s507a (under-13s), that there needs to be a central fund analogous and proportionate to adult Arts and Sports Council funding, with an emphasis on matched funding by LEAs and others, and that General Comment no 17 of the UN General Assembly re Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (The Right to Play) is at the heart of the discussion.

Best wishes
