Read-a-Thon Collection/PTO Meeting/Picture Day

Dear Families, We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful extended autumn weekend! Welcome back-- we have a busy week ahead. It was excellent to see all the friends who made the extra effort for our Walk and Bike to School Challenge last week. What an impressive turnout, especially considering we are a commuter campus. Many thanks to Ellen Kozrya Currier for coordinating our program this year and all of the volunteers who made the morning run smoothly. Merci! It's time to get those last few minutes of reading in and turn in your Read-a-Thon packets and pledges! You can also DONATE RIGHT NOW. There will be collection boxes at morning drop off all week. Please see below for more details. Our goal for Read-a-thon is $11,000. We need everyone's help. $11,000 pays for 2 of our French-speaking interns. Get those smiles and signature looks ready because this Friday is our School Picture Day and health screening event. Lastly, we would like to invite you to join us Thursday 10/18 for our PTO General Meeting in Room 1 beginning at 6:30 pm. Free childcare is provided by Mme. V in the school cafeteria. Agenda for the meeting here. Have a great week!

It's COLLECTION WEEK for Read‐a‐thon!

We are excited to honor all of our students' epic reading adventures. There will be volunteers at the front and back of the school collecting the Read‐a‐thon envelopes every morning this week. Please have your student record all of their reading time for October 5-14, collect any pledges, or ONLINE DONATIONS  and return their Read‐a‐thon envelope before the end of the week.

Students returning envelopes will be entered into a daily drawing for BOOK BUCKS to spend at the upcoming book fair, and for the Grand Prize drawing for a Kindle eReader!

Remember, every 100 minutes of reading time will give students

readingsuess

the opportunity to "travel the world" with Mme Courtney and earn yourself a star to decorate and display on our Reading Superstar Hall of Fame! Let's aim for 100% school participation. The class with the most participation (envelopes returned) wins a special party!!! Students can continue to collect donations and pledges through the end of the week.

The final day to turn in Read‐a‐thon envelopes will be FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19. All participants are eligible for prizes, regardless of the number of pledges received. Every minute counts with reading!

School Bond Measure on November Ballot

A measure that would provide local funding for Eugene public schools is on the November 6 election ballot.

The bond measure, Measure 20-297, would allow Eugene School District 4J to:

• Make improvements at every school

• Improve student safety, security and equity across the district

• Provide better learning environments and materials for students

• Boost career technical education at all 4J high schools

• Repair and update schools that are more than 50 years old

• Replace three aging buildings that are worn and have high energy and maintenance costs

By law, bond money can only be spent on capital improvements such as facilities, equipment, curriculum and technology. It cannot be used to pay for teachers, school days or school programs.

If the measure is approved, property tax rates for Eugene School District 4J bond debt would increase by about $0.66 per $1,000 assessed value. Property taxes would increase by about $135 a year for the median homeowner in the district, with an assessed property value of $204,000.

Voters must be registered by October 16 to vote in this election. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters beginning October 17 and must be returned to the county elections office or an official ballot drop box by November 6, 8 p.m.

For more information, please see www.4j.lane.edu/bond.
