Read-a-thon/PTO Class Reps/Carpool reminders

Dear Families, Get the books and cozy blankets ready because today marks the official kickoff of our school Read-a-Thon! This is a great opportunity for parents to encourage the exploration of new interests and travel to new destinations through the lens of a book. More info below. This Wednesday 10/10 is the Walk+Roll to School Challenge! Our goal is to encourage as many students as possible to increase their physical activity by using active transportation modes like walking, biking, scooting, and skating to make it to school! This year we are excited to also introduce a Park and Stride as part of the Walk and Roll to School Challenge for our entire community! This is a great way to participate if you live too far away to walk. See more details below. Thank you to all the patience and quick accommodations displayed by our parents this past week after the unfortunate potential gas leak incident. We also want to recognize the incredible poise, responsiveness and leadership of Mmes Courtney and Bernadette and our teaching staff. Bravo! Enjoy the short week!

Walk+Roll to School Challenge!

On Wednesday, October 10, our school is participating in the
walk_roll
Walk+Roll to School Challenge!  Our goal is to encourage as many students as possible to increase their physical activity by using active transportation modes like walking, biking, scooting, and skating to make it to school!  We have great incentives and prizes to encourage our students to get active!

This year we are excited to introduce a Park and Stride for our entire community!  This is a great way to participate if you live too far away to walk.

Details for October 10 PARK AND STRIDE:
8:05 am: Meet at the St. Vincent de Paul church site on West Amazon and Fox Hollow. Madame Courtney will be leading the walk to school from the parking lot.  Please plan on accompanying your student on the walk.

Please also consider bringing a donation of canned food, unused toothpaste, or blankets or use this link for full list of items St. Vincent de Paul needs. St Vincent de Paul has been very generous in allowing the use of their parking lot and a small donation is a win for both St. Vincent de Paul and Charlemagne.

Interested in helping with this year’s Walk+Roll to School Challenge? We are currently looking for 3-5 volunteers on 10/10 to help staff the tables at the front and back of the school and assist with handing out rewards to students. The shift is 8:00-8 35 am. Interested in supporting green transportation in our community? Contact Ellen Currier

PTO Class Representatives still needed

volunteer2
We still need PTO class representatives from almost every class with the exception of 1st grade.

Interested in being a part of Charlemagne’s core team of support? Our PTO reps are the school liaisons to each class, they help communicate important information and volunteer opportunities and help coordinate the class auction package in spring.

This is a great entry point to being more involved in supporting our community. Please contact debralmcintosh@hotmail.com for more info.

Please help us be safe during carpool!

Now that we've had a few weeks of school, we have three important reminders:
  1. School hours.  Charlemagne supervises students between the hours of 8:00 am - 3:15 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am - 2:00 pm on Friday.

  2. Student supervision. During carpool pickup, students may not leave the area unaccompanied without parent communication to teachers or the front office. Students cannot be at school unsupervised -- inside or on the playground-- either before or after school.

    dropoffline
  3. Pick-up.  Please do not stop in the carpool lanes and get out of your car. Continue to pull forward into empty space so traffic doesn't back up. If you need to come inside, please park in the lot. Enjoy the humorous image as you plan to make drop off as easy as possible!

Many thanks for your attention to these shared responsibilities!

City of Eugene update: Amazon Active Transportation Corridor

The Amazon Active Transportation Corridor project has been in development since 2012.  It seeks to implement the "Ridgeline to River" path concept envisioned by city leaders since the development of the Amazon Path.  In summary, the "Ridgeline to River" corridor would connect the Ridgeline Trail and Spencer's Butte in south Eugene to the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path and Willamette River on the north.  A portion of this corridor is already constructed - the Amazon Path is a 12' concrete path from 34th Avenue to 19th Avenue.  The Amazon Active Transportation Corridor project builds the southern end of the "Ridgeline to River" pathway. (A future projects is planned for 2019-20 to extend the bikeway north on High Street from 19th Avenue to 6th Avenue.)

Fall 2018
Construction of a two-way protected bike lane on the west side of East Amazon Drive from Dillard Road to Hilyard Street as part of the “Ridgeline to River Corridor” that will connect the Ridgeline trail system to the Ruth Bascom Riverfront Path system. Building the protected bikeway entails removing parking from E. Amazon Drive.
Construction of a bicycle signal to help bike riders get to and from the southeast to northwest corner of Hilyard and E. Amazon Dr./33rd Ave.
Extend the buffered bike lane on W. Amazon from Fox Hollow to Snell.
Extension of the Amazon Path on the west side of Hilyard Street from 34th Alley south to 36th Place.
